The Best Dessert Spots in NYC

June 22,2022 | By Centennial Properties

When you're craving your comfort treat, what is your go-to spot? Some people gravitate towards coffee shops. Some people prefer the appeal of the neighborhood's local sandwich shop. And then you have the people with insatiable sweet tooths that go right for dessert. If this is you, you've come to the right place.

New York City is known for its food scene, but dessert spots don't always get the attention they deserve. So for this blog, we're going to share some of the best places to go in NYC for a sweet treat. We're lucky to have some of these shops reside in the buildings we lease, while others are just favorites around the city.

Li-Lac Chocolates

Located in Brooklyn, Li-Lac Chocolates is Manhattan's oldest chocolate house. People love Li-Lac for their original recipes and their classic production methods. Some of their copper kettles, weight scales, and marble tables date back to the early 1920s. Visitors get to enjoy a through-the-window look into their production facility and then can purchase fresh chocolate made daily from their shop to enjoy as they walk around the neighborhood.

Angelina Bakery

Angelina Bakery is the first Asian-inspired Italian bakery to come to New York City. They've taken recipes passed down from the matriarchs of their family and have transformed them into some of the most incredible baked goods you'll ever try. Their menu consists of treats like cannolis, tarts, gelato, and cakes, which you can also buy by the slice.

Keki Cakes

Keki Cakes' mission is to serve the freshest of the fresh ingredients. They source range-free eggs from Upstate NY and buy their organic dairy products from Amish Country in Lancaster County, PA. Their customers love their bouncy cheesecakes, which come in flavors like original, ubi, cookies n' cream, strawberry, and green tea. They also serve tarts, cream puffs, and milk ice cream.

Burrow

Burrow is a bit of a hidden gem, as there's no street-facing storefront to let you know where they're located. But it's worth the hunt to find them. Burrow is a very simple space, but their food is what makes them stand out. Customers love their pistachio cake, their strawberry shortcake, and their homemade granola.

Milk Bar

If you love desserts, you already know about Milk Bar and its owner and chef, Christina Tosi. But we couldn't not put it on this list. Their truffles, cookies, and pies are unlike anything you've tasted before, but it's their cakes that really set them apart. From their birthday cake to their carrot marshmallow crackle cake, there's a flavor combination for everyone — and they have gluten-free options as well.

Fortunato Brothers

Fortunato Brothers has been serving up Italian pastries in New York since the 1970s. They have cannolis, seasonal gelato, and affogatos, but what's unique about Fortunato Brothers is their marzipan art. They make realistic looking fruit from the almond paste that truly looks like eggplants, bananas, and even ears of corn. Dessert should be fun, after all!

Serendipity3

Serendipity3 is one of Manhattan's most popular dessert spots, and they just did a major renovation of their location. They're renowned for their world-famous Frrrozen Hot Chocolate and have other local favorites listed on their legendary menu, like their "Big Apple" Pie à la mode and their Ultimate Creme Cheesecake, topped with hot fudge and strawberries.

The next time you find yourself craving a sweet treat, be sure to check out one of the dessert spots on this list.
